And then there were six.
In light of halts to racing at California’s Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields, offerings for horseplayers have thinned even more in recent days. But even amid the COVID-19 pandemic that has put a pause on just about every other sport, racing is expected to continue on a daily basis this week around the country.
Four tracks running Thoroughbreds and two more with Quarter Horse events are left on the schedule, while wagering is also available on races in Australia, Japan and Sweden.

The stakes schedule is, accordingly, light.
- Monday’s Will Rogers feature is the $50,000 Wilma Mankiller, a six-furlong event for fillies and mares 3 and up that goes as Race 9, at 6:15 p.m. ET. The Steve Asmussen barn shipped in 5-2 favorite Estilo Femenino, who has won at the allowance level on larger circuits. She’s the 5-2 favorite.
- Fonner Park’s $10,000 Baxter Stakes for 3-year-olds is Tuesday’s first added-money event. Florida-bred Kat Dude, a maiden claiming winner at the recent Sam Houston meet in Texas, is the one to beat at 2-1 on the morning line. Carded as Race 3, this one goes six furlongs at 5:45 p.m. ET.
- Later Tuesday, the $50,000 Highland Ice Stakes features at Will Rogers. Another 3/4-mile sprint for horses 3 and up, it includes Nero, a former Bob Baffert runner plucked by Asmussen owner Clark Brewster out of last November’s Keeneland sale for $47,000. Nero has run second, third and fourth for his new connections at Oaklawn Park and will seek a victory as the 2-1 favorite. Race 9 goes at 6:15 p.m. ET.
