Like other sports across the globe, the golfing world has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. While the Open Championship was cancelled, the 2020 U.S. Open is still on track to happen – just at a later date.
The U.S. Open is slated to take place at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York, on September 17-20. The initial date for the event was June 18-21 before it was postponed. This is the first time in tournament history that the U.S. Open has been played in September. No fans will be in attendance at Winged Foot due to social-distancing measures.
Can Morikawa Win His Second Major in a Row?
Collin Morikawa, fresh off claiming his first major victory at the PGA Championship in San Francisco, will be looking for more success. Prior to the PGA Championship, Morikawa’s U.S. Open odds sat at +5000. As of August 13, his odds had shifted all the way to +2000.
According to the latest odds at the shop, 2017 and 2018 U.S. Open champion Brooks Koepka is the +1100 favorite to win his fifth major title. Koepka was in contention heading into Sunday at this year’s PGA Championship but fell out of the race thanks to a +4 showing in the final round. Koepka ended the tournament in a tie for 29th place.
Following Koepka on the oddsboard are Bryson DeChambeau (+1200), Dustin Johnson (+1200), Rory McIlroy (+1200) and Jon Rahm (+1400).
DeChambeau was the hottest player in the first month of the PGA Tour’s Return to Golf, notching a T-3 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, T-8 at the RBC Heritage, T-6 at the Travelers Championship and triumphing at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. “The Scientist” held his own at the PGA Championship, finishing T-4 at TPC Harding Park.
