Backup Will Plummer completed only 17 of 35 passes for 151 yards with 0 TDs and 2 ints., although he ran for 49 yards on 12 carries. CBs McKenzie Barnes and Malik Hausman both opted out of the 2020 season. They were listed on the depth chart, but not as starters, and had combined for just 5 total tackles.
Auburn Tigers’ OL was mostly without its starting tackles, as LT Alec Jackson couldn’t go and was held out, while RT Brdarious Hamm played in the first half but couldn’t make post for the second half last Saturday in the Iron Bowl vs. Bama.
Boston College QB Phil Jurkovec injured his knee and was removed from the Louisville win. Backup QB Dennis Grosel completed 4 of 7 passes for 44 yds. with 2 TD passes in relief. Jr. RB David Bailey ran 10 times for 53 yards and 2 TDs before he, too, exited the game with an upper body injury.
Georgia Southern QB Shai Werts, the team’s top rusher with 936 yds. and 7.7 ypc, banged up his shoulder against Ga. State and could be iffy for FAU this week.
Indiana QB Michael Penix Jr. left the Maryland game in the third quarter with an ankle injury and did not return. Check status as Penix is an extremely key component for the Hoosiers.
Louisville DT Jared Goldwire (32 Ts, 2 sacks) sat out against BC with an undisclosed malady.
LSU Top WR Terrace Marshall, Jr. (48 catches and 10 TDs) has opted out for the remainder of the season.
Maryland Mike Locksley’s defense was impacted against Indiana as several cast members were unavailable due to Covid protocol. Among them were 3rd leading tackler LB Ayinde Eley, DBs Fa’Najae Gotay (12 Ts), and DB Tarheeb Still (13 Ts).
Memphis Top rusher Rodrigues Clark didn’t play vs. Navy due to an undisclosed injury and backup Marquavius Weaver had just 49 YR on 15 carries. LB Xavier Cullens (22 Ts, 1 sack) limped off against Navy and didn’t return.
Middle Tenn St The Blue Raiders had last week’s game against Florida Atlantic canceled due to Covid infections, tracing and conventional injuries
Minnesota U WR Rashod Bateman (36 catches) is through for the season for undisclosed personal reasons. Star RB Mohamed Ibrahim is iffy after he left the last game with an undisclosed injury.
Navy QB Dalen Morris (sacked 6 times L2Gs; 26 carries for 26 YR) has apparently been demoted to 2nd team in deference to Tyger Goslin, who has a 3-0 TD-int. ratio and has averaged 10 ypp in his time on the field for the Mids.
Northwestern WR Berkeley Holman was stretchered off in loss to Michigan State. Holman isn’t a lead receiver, although he started a few games and made 9 catches LY (2 TY). QB Peyton Ramsey limped off towards the end of the game after throwing an interception.
Oregon Top RB CJ Verdell left the Oregon State game after just 9 carries for 36 yds. and is questionable for Cal. Star frosh LB Noah Sewell, who was carted off the field with what appeared to be a scary injury last weekend, returned to action for the Ducks.
Oregon State QB Tristan Gebbia suffered a lower body injury in the victory over Oregon at the end of the Oregon game and if iffy for Utah this week. backup QB Chance Nolan came in for the 4th down snap from the Ducks 1 and scored the winning TD on a QB sneak with 33 seconds to play. G Nous Keobounnam also couldn’t play against Oregon due to Covid protocol. It didn’t bother the Beavers, as they upset the Ducks 41-38.
Penn State RB Devin Ford did not make the trip to Michigan due to a death in his family. Penn State was down to its 4th and 5th choices, both frosh, at RB due to previously losing Journey Brown and Noah Cain for the season.
Pittsburgh U Starting G Jake Kradel and T Carter Warren were among several members of the Pitt OL that weren’t available for the trip to Clemson.
Purdue QB Aidan O’Connell (foot injury) has missed time but has a chance to return vs. Nebraska. Not a huge drop off to 6-5 backup Jack Plummer, who has completed 71% of his passes for 604 yds. with a 5-2 TD-int. mark. LB Derrick Barnes, the team’s leading tackler with 45, was called for a personal foul and DQ’d in 2nd half against Rutgers and will be out for the first half against Nebraska.
Rutgers Artur Sitkowski started in place of QB Noah Vedral, who was injured in the last game, and completed 18 of 27 passes for 141 yards and 2 TDs with 0 ints.). Texas LT Sam Cosmi will opt out of the remainder of the season in order to prepare for the NFL draft. This is a big blow for the Longhorns as Cosmi is projected as a high first-round draft pick.
Texas State Soph CB Khambrail Winters was shot and killed during the week in what was apparently a drug deal gone wrong. Winters hadn’t played this season after making 8 starts with 50 Ts and garnering all-SBC honorable mention last year as a freshman.
Toledo QB Eli Peters was KO’d with a leg injury in 4th Q against Ball State, forcing soph Carter Bradley to finish the game. Toledo had the ball in position to win the game, but Bradley was strip-sacked and fumbled to extinguish the final Rocket chance.
Tulsa Check status of Hurricane QB Zach Smith, who injured his knee two weeks ago against Tulane. He was followed to the bench by backup Seth Boomer, although third choice Davis Brin did a nice job in the game, finishing the victory completing 18 of 28 passes for 266 yds. and 2 TDs, including a Hail Mary as time ran out in regulation to force OT in a 30-24 Hurricane winner.
