The National League West, beginning with the Arizona Diamondbacks, who were a much better team after a win than they were after a loss and they were particularly bad following a loss of the one-run variety.

Colorado was much more consistent, showing a profit after a win or a loss, while also being a solid under team all season, which isn’t exactly what you think of when it comes to Coors Field.

The Dodgers were dominant after a victory, showing a profit of more than $2,700, but they gave quite a bit of that away when following up after a loss, showing a $1,650 loss despite a 34-28 record. If you’re looking for one reason why the Dodgers haven’t a World Series in so many years, that’s one, as great teams simply play better after a loss. Los Angeles’ 20-5 record after a one-run win is definitely noteworthy.

San Diego did poor in the standings, but were much friendlier to bettors, showing a profit for the season despite losing 90 games. San Diego was 11-8 after a one-run win, but showed an $800 profit and ROI greater than 40% due to being large underdogs so often.

The Giants were poor all the way around, but did show a bit more after a defeat, scoring 1.10 more runs per game, which really changed their totals record after wins or losses.

We’ll now move to the National League Central, and start with the Cubs, who show the problem of dealing with one of the more public teams around, as they showed a loss of over $1,100 despite making the playoffs and winning 20 more games than they lost. Even though the Cubs did show an overall loss, Chicago was solid after a one-run game, either winning or losing.

The Reds were a losing team in the standings and at the betting window, particularly after a one-run games. Cincinnati also showed a pretty good difference in totals depending on whether they won or lost their previous game.

The Brewers showed a profit after a win or a loss, but were pretty bad after a one-run victory, especially at the plate, which helped them to an 8-15-2 totals record after those one-run wins. Overall, the Brewers were a strong under team after a defeat.

The Pirates had a pronounced difference after a win or a loss, posting a decent profit after a victory, but a pretty hefty loss when coming off a defeat. The Pirate bats went a little quiet after losing, so they did post a pretty decent under mark in that situation.

The Cardinals were a losing team, both after winning and losing, although they were 43-40 after a win and 39-39 after a loss and St. Louis was pretty steady in totals across the board.

We’ll now move to the National League, beginning with the East division, where we’ll start with the New York Mets, one of biggest money burners in all of Major League Baseball last season. The Mets were horrible after a win or a loss last season and were the third-worst team in MLB for bettors to back.

The Braves were pretty consistent, showing a small loss after a win or a defeat and they were fairly consistent with their scoring, but were particularly bad following a one-run loss.

The Marlins were a bit of an oddity, playing better after a loss than a victory, although they did fare pretty well after a one-run victory. The Fish did score a little more after a loss than a win, but the difference wasn’t earth-shattering.

The Phillies didn’t score much in 2017, but their offense was worse following a loss, where they scored 4.11 runs per game, which led to a 36-60 record after a defeat. Philadelphia wasn’t quite as bad after a victory, unless it happened to be of the one-run variety. The Phillies did lose 36 games by a run last year and had a strong under tendency following one-run games.

Surprisingly, the Nationals were a fairly poor team after a victory last season, going just 54-45 for a loss of nearly $650, but were pretty solid after a loss, where they won nearly two-thirds of their games and showed a profit of more than $1000. The teams record after a one-run loss was an eye-opening 18-4.
