 1. Houston Astros

There’s nothing that this team can’t do. Houston are the champs for a reason, and they might be even better this season with the addition of Gerrit Cole. I strongly believe that Houston’s coaching staff led by A.J. Hinch might be the best in the league – by miles! How else do you explain how players routinely take their game up a notch when they arrive in H-Town?

2. Boston Red Sox

Despite not playing with either Mookie Betts or Dustin Pedroia, and Chris Sale and David Price being up and down, Boston’s depth and positional versatility have them right where they want to be – atop their division and near the top of these rankings. New manager Alex Cora has brought the winning ways and philosophies of Houston to Beantown and it’s suited this crew quite well. J.D. Martinez keeps reminding everyone how he is the better hitter between he and Giancarlo Stanton.

3. New York Yankees

The Bronx Bombers are lighting it up each time they take to the field. It’s an exciting time to be a Yankees fan – and player! Aaron Boone has shown his ability already to be a top flight manager, guiding this young team to one of the best records in baseball. If they can acquire one more starting pitcher then they may very well move up on these rankings.

4. Milwaukee Brewers

Many are comparing this team to the 2015 Royals, the upstart team that shocked everyone and captured glory. Lorenzo Cain being the common denominator aside, this Brewers team is a brilliant mix of vets and rising stars, led by manager Craig Counsell, himself a former sparkplug major leaguer who was universally liked. Similar to New York, I think they need one more arm in the starting rotation to really cement their title contention status.

5. Seattle Mariners

Well now, we’ve seen this story before; a Mariners team with loads of potential early, but who never lives up to it. Still, for the moment, this club is locked and loaded. Matt Haniger is having a nice coming out party. But aside from him, this team does it by committee. If they can hang around in the playoff race until Robinson Cano comes back, Seattle could be in it for the long haul this season. I’m not quite sure what their ceiling is right now, but it’s certainly bright.
