Starting pitchers: Dylan Bundy vs. Sean Manaea
Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Bundy looks primed for a breakout. A change of scenery might be exactly what the 27-year-old needed, and it’s been so far so good in an Angels uniform. He’s always had excellent stuff, but hasn’t been able to put it all together. Early indications from spring training and summer camp suggest he’s figured something out, and I’m buying in early.
It just so happens Bundy’s going up against a guy in Manaea who I’m looking to fade early in the season while he works through some stuff. The 28-year-old is going to need to deliver for a banged up Athletics rotation, but his preseason outings haven’t been promising. His fastball topped out at 89 mph in his last outing, as he allowed three runs on four hits over five innings against a lowly San Francisco Giants lineup. When his slider is working he’s really fun to watch, but he’s obviously not there quite yet.
