Betting NFL Totals? Here’s a Look at this Week’s Total Breakdown
Eagles at Giants (44)
Two struggling offensive teams here, and now Philly’s rather stagnant running game has lost No. 1 back Jay Ajayi to a season-ending ACL tear. Right after he complained about not getting enough touches. That said, neither defense has played that great, either. Over is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings. Pick: Over.
Cardinals at Vikings (43)
Here’s guessing the Vikings don’t lose 27-6 as double-digit favorites as they did at home a few weeks ago against Buffalo. Arizona was pushed around the field by CJ Beathard and the Niners last Sunday. What do you think Kirk Cousins may do? I get why this total is so low – oddsmakers don’t think the Cardinals will score more than 17. They probably won’t. Under is 5-1 in Vikings last 6 home games. Pick: Under.
Chargers at Browns (44.5)
If this game were in December, I’d love the under. However, that Chargers defense has had major problems this year. The Browns were held to 12 at home last week but that was against a much better Ravens defense. Over is 4-1 in Chargers last 5 games overall. Pick: Over.
Bears at Dolphins (43)
Chicago’s Mitchell Trubisky comes off the game of his life. But in Chicago’s last road game, that offense managed only 16 points in Arizona. Meanwhile, Khalil Mack and Co. should give Ryan Tannehill fits. Under is 6-1 in Bears last 7 road games. Pick: Under.
Panthers at Redskins (45)
If Washington can only score 19 points on a bad New Orleans defense, what will it do vs. a good Carolina one? Redskins running back Adrian Peterson also dislocated his shoulder on Monday, although he claims will play through it. Under is 4-1 in Redskins last 5 home games. Pick: Under.
Colts at Jets (45)
Ton of injuries for both defenses here. The Jets secondary could be missing two key guys and that should bode well for Andrew Luck on extra rest. Weather looks decent in New Jersey. Over is 5-2 in Jets last 7 home games. Pick: Over.
Steelers at Bengals (53)
Remember when this was a hard-hitting, low-scoring rivalry? Andy Dalton is having a terrific season, and Ben Roethlisberger can still sling it. This will be his last game, barring a trade, without Le’Veon Bell. Over is 5-1 in Bengals last 6 games overall. Pick: Over.
Bucs at Falcons (57.5)
Shocking this doesn’t have the highest total of the day because if you simply go by the average points given up by each team this year, the two worst defenses in the league, the final score would be Atlanta 34.8 and Tampa Bay 32.6. That’s quite a bit over 57.5, isn’t it? Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Atlanta. Pick: Over.
Seahawks at Raiders (48)
This one’s in London and a 10 a.m. ET kickoff Pacific time for both teams – players’ body clocks already will be totally messed up. Seattle is still moderately good on defense, while the Raiders are third from last in allowing 29.8 ppg. Still, these London games are usually sloppy and that means offensive turnovers. Under is 10-2 in Raiders last 12 games overall. Pick: Under.
Bills at Texans (TBA)
As of this writing, total was off the board because Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson was banged up on Sunday night in the win over Dallas. Frankly, I don’t care where this number lands, and it won’t be very high. Bills QB Josh Allen is going to be eaten alive. Under is 8-3 in Texans last 11 games overall. Pick: Under.
Rams at Broncos (52.5)
I believe this is a huge trap game for the Rams. Granted, their offense looks unstoppable but it’s supposed to be high 20s with some light snow in Denver on Sunday. That can only help the Broncos defense – which is used to such conditions. Under is 8-3 in Broncos last 11 games in October. Pick: Under.
Jaguars at Cowboys (40.5 – Lowest of Week)
This should have the lowest total of the week because neither quarterback, Blake Bortles or Dak Prescott, is trustworthy. That stellar Jacksonville pass defense will make the Cowboys one-dimensional. This might be the quickest game in terms of time Sunday because both offenses will be running the ball all day. Under is 12-2 in Cowboys last 14 games overall. Pick: Under.
Ravens at Titans (41)
The Titans have been held to 20 points or fewer in every game but the one that went to overtime. They just don’t have much of a passing attack. Meanwhile, Joe Flacco came crashing back to earth last week in Cleveland. This won’t be pretty. Under is 7-2 in Titans last 9 vs. AFC. Pick: Under.
Chiefs at Patriots (59.5 – Highest of Week)
Will this get to 60? The Chiefs lead the league in scoring, and their defense is so bad it allowed Jacksonville to top 500 yards last week. What do you think Tom Brady will do? Over is 4-1 in Chiefs last 5 road games. Pick: Over.
49ers at Packers (46.5)
No doubt that ESPN would like to boot the Niners off the Monday night telecast with Jimmy Garoppolo now out. San Francisco is missing much of its top skill position players, while it’s still not clear if Aaron Rodgers will get his any of his top three receivers back this week. Under is 8-3 in Packers last 11 games in October. Pick: Under.
