The Los Angeles Angels have had a rough start to their season as they come in at just 1-3 through four games and their offense has been the biggest issue so far. The Halos scored six runs in the 2nd game of their series against the A’s, but they put up a total of three runs in their other three games of the series. On Sunday, they lost by a score of 2-1 and they totaled just three hits in the game, with Kole Calhoun getting two of the hits. One was his 1st round-tripper of the season. Tyler Skaggs didn’t pitch badly as he allowed just two ERs on five hits through 4.2 innings of work, but he was still saddled with the loss. The strength of the Halos has been their pen as it has allowed just nine hits and no runs while striking out 12 in 12.2 innings of work so far. Mike Trout was just signed to a gazillion dollar contract and while he is hitting .333, he has just three RBIs and no homers so far. He has hit .320 with 33 homers and 85 RBIs in 488 career at-bats against the Mariners in his career.

Getting the call for the Angels will be Chris Stratton, who spent the first three years of his career in San Francisco, before coming over in the offseason. Last year, he was 10-10 with a 5.09 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP in 28 games (26 starts), including 4-7 with a 5.45 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP in 13 starts on the road. In his career, he has gone 5-10 with a 4.87 ERA in 23 games (18 starts) on the road and 2-3 with a 4.79 GAA in eight games (six starts) during March/ April. This will be his first meeting against the Mariners.

The Angels have been a poor offensive team so far as they come in ranked 27th in the league in scoring, putting up just 2.25 rpg, while also ranking 28th in hitting at .176 and 25th in homers with one. On the mound, they have been above average so far as they come in ranked 10th in the league in ERA at 3.27, while also ranking 13th in WHIP at 1.15 and 26th in K’s with 21. The pen for the Halos ranks tied for first in the league with a 0.00 ERA.

Mariners Hold Off Charge From The Red Sox

Unlike the Angels, The Seattle Mariners have had no such issues on offense so far and they just scored 34 runs in their four-game set with the Red Sox. the Mariners took three of those four games and they are now at 5-1 on the young season. In the finale against the Red Sox, they had a 9-3 lead after the 3rd inning, before holding on for a 10-8 win. Wade LeBlanc had a rough outing as he allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out just one in 5.1 innings of work, but it was still enough to grab the win. Chasen Bradford picked up his first save of the year. The offense pounded out 12 hits and was issued seven free passes. They were led by Omar Narvaez and Dee Gordon, who each had three RBI’s, while Jay Bruce had two hits an RBI and three runs scored. Bruce (2) and Narvaez (2) both went deep in the contest. Bruce is still hitting just 1.82 on the year.
